Plastipak's Solar Energy Initiative
At Pope Packaging, sustainability is more than a goal—it’s a responsibility. That’s why we’re proud to support our Sri Lankan partner, Plastipak, in taking a major step toward a greener future with the installation of a cutting-edge solar energy system.
Big Goals, Measurable Impact
Plastipak’s mission was clear: reduce electricity costs and cut carbon emissions. The results speak for themselves:
- 20% of the factory’s energy needs are now powered by solar.
- 47.5 tonnes of CO₂ emissions reduced every month—equivalent to planting 780 trees or powering 8 homes for an entire year.
- AUD 13,000 saved in electricity costs every month.
These aren’t just numbers—they’re proof that sustainability and business efficiency go hand in hand.
A System Built for Long-Term Impact
While the solar system itself follows standard technology, Plastipak invested in high-quality materials to maximize efficiency and longevity. Every watt generated contributes to a cleaner, more sustainable future for the region.
What This Means for Our Customers
This transition isn’t just about reducing operational costs—it’s about building a sustainable future for our industry and customers. Lower costs enable us to offer more stable, competitive pricing, helping businesses meet their own sustainability goals while supporting environmentally responsible manufacturing.
Although solar energy currently powers the factory only during daylight hours, it represents a crucial first step in reducing reliance on traditional energy sources and minimizing environmental impact.
The Future is Bright
Plastipak’s solar project is just the beginning. At Pope Packaging, we remain committed to finding innovative ways to shrink our carbon footprint and drive sustainability across our global network. Together with our partners, we are taking bold steps toward a greener future—one kilowatt at a time.
